We have been married since Jan 1992. We raised three kids together that are now adults. Kevin retired from the water reclamation field. I retired from a part-time job in the childcare field.  We live fulltime in our Tiffin Allegro Open Road Class A Motorhome since June 2015. Kevin and recently bought an RV pad at Rancho RV Park in Aguanga California.

Hobbies together: Elks lodge pin collecting, Fitbit walking, weight watchers, sci-fi & fantasy movie fans, beachcomber,  farmers market supporters, used books store enthusiast, geocaching, lighthouse enthusiast, nature identification, wildlife spotting, birding & rving.

Kevin’s hobbies are fantasy football, prog rock, reading, journaling, hiking stick trail medallions & games.

Janet’s hobbies are reading, national passport stamp collecting, blogging & weight watcher lifetime member.

Kevin and I are traveling the USA and building friendships along the way.

  4. Janet, I would love to dig into Genealogy but not sure where to start. I have paper copies of my family’s background going back to my great grandfather. I even have a photo of him. I assume you use something like Ancestry.com.

    • I talked to family members first. Then, when I have the yearly fee for ancestry.com I look up census reports, post pictures, write stories and find out what other family members have on ancestry.com. I’ve even had my DNA test on ancestry.com. lol
      It sounds like you have some great information to share about your family. The papers & photos you have could be scanned and posted on ancesty.com for other members of the family to see. I’m a beginner I enjoy learning about genealogy my main sources right now are family & ancesty.com.

    • I know I’m butting in here, but let me give a little advice based on experience.
      First, start a spreadsheet (EXCEL, etcetera). Record every relative with every thing you know, at this time, adding columns as you need. Your first pass info might be as sparse as; Name, DOB, Father, Mother, brothers, sisters, Date of death, where buried, and short personal notes about the person, etc.
      As you add to your list, you will find that you have other information about some that you don’t have about others, but add columns anyway, you can edit things later.
      Once you have several dozen people (or, hopefully more), sort the people by birthdate.
      Talk to your relatives and send them a copy of your spreadsheet, asking them of they know any more about them, or if they know anything of others in your family tree. You will be surprised at the new information you get.
      Then, update your spreadsheet and go to your local county courthouse and ask for records on the people on your list. Generally, they will let you access their books, on microfilm, or possibly the old books will have been scanned and you can read on their computers.
      Update again, and now you will probably have some information on people several generations back. If they lived in another county or even another state, plan a short vacation there and look through their records.
      I know this sounds like a lot of work, but my cousin took this task on when he retired, as a hobby of course. But he ended up with a CD full of data that he shared with me and my family tree goes back to 1647 in the US and there is even some data about my ancestors before they migrated to the states from Glamorgan Shire England.
      It is a great hobby and all of your relatives will want a copy. LOL!
